Where are you located?
My boat is docked at a little hotel called Banana Bay Resort, which is located in the middle of the North side of Key West. It is no more than a five minute drive from anywhere in Key West. If you are staying at A downtown hotel, I can many times arrange to pick you up by boat somewhere on the waterfront. I have my customers call the day before the trip for directions and time of departure.

What do you provide?
I provide a fast well maintained 18 foot Maverick, perfect, top of the line rods and reels, state of the art terminal tackle, a cooler stocked with plenty of ice, all bait and licenses.

What should I bring?
Bring whatever you want to eat or drink, sun block, and if you have them, polarized sunglasses. It is a good idea to wear light colored, tropical weight clothing. If you want to bring some of your own tackle, you are welcome to but please speak to me in advance so that I can make sure it is up to the task.

What type of boat and equipment do you have?

The boat is an 18' Maverick Master Angler with a very new Yamaha 115 HP four stroke engine. The boat is very well maintained, as roomy as a true flats boat can be and handles the occasional choppy day better than any other I've been on. The live wells are very large ensuring healthy live bait for the anglers.

The tackle I provide is all top quality. Mostly Shimano rods and reels at the moment. Each outfit is carefully paired to its intended species to provide maximum thrill while allowing us to catch the fish in a reasonable amount of time, thus ensuring his survival.  I am very meticulous as far as perfectly maintained drag washers and full spools of line. I'm currently using Power Pro braided line for most applications. Leader material is always fluorocarbon. Hooks are mostly owner circle and cutting point hooks. The terminal tackle that we use on any given day is based on what is currently working best according to the network of top guides that I'm aligned with. We all work together well and share information (to a degree).

Do you provide something for all skill levels?
Absolutely - All skill levels will be very happy with my trips. I have 130 plus days per year booked with regular clients, ranging anywhere from globe trotting world class anglers to the guy and his ten year old son who had never caught anything bigger than a crappie until they came here. I enjoy coaching beginners and love the thrill that they get when I get them hooked up to a fish much larger than any they've ever seen. I also appreciate the challenge of guiding a very experienced angler to his tenth permit or his first grand slam.

Do you offer Fly Fishing?
If you prefer a fly rod to light spinning gear, please be aware that Capt J. is also an experienced fly fisherman and provides Key West fly fishing charters as well. If fly fishing is your preference or something you would like to include, please be sure to specify this when contacting Capt. J.
